J. Scott Helma - VP

Scott Helma is an independent consultant working with start-up ventures, non-profits and Christian organizations. Adept at developing innovative solutions, Helma has 25 years experience in business development and new ventures primarily in the energy industry. He has managed business projects and led negotiating teams throughout North and South America, as well as Central Asia. He has extensive experience in organizing and running conferences on a national and regional level and a comprehensive knowledge of information technology systems. A native of Aurora, Colorado, Helma holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Colorado.

From 2001 through 2005 he served as the founding executive director of Alpha North America’s first local office in Houston, Texas. Alpha is a 15-session course of study, designed to introduce non-churchgoers to the Christian Faith. It was developed in England over a period of 20 years, and is now being used worldwide, having been translated into 47 languages and adopted in 127 countries. Helma developed a regional presence, and provided training and support for the Alpha Course; resulting in a community of over 200 churches across all Christian denominations. Since the inception of the Houston office over 1,200 church leaders have been trained to run Alpha and over 45,000 people have taken the Course in the Houston region.

Helma was instrumental in the organization and development of faithHouston.com. He serves on the Executive Committee for CityFest Houston with international evangelist Luis Palau and was part of the team that initiated this event. He was also one of the leaders of a volunteer team that organized and conducted a very successful, multi-denominational Conference on Spiritual Renewal hosted by Renovare International at Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center in June 1999.
